Each and every day recruiters, office managers, and human resources professionals alike, sort through hundreds of resumes looking for candidates that shine and offer promise to the advancement of the company. This process can be time consuming, as the individual needs to consider every aspect of the candidates professional past before deciding whether or not moving forward with this candidate can potentially be beneficial to the business. One of the grueling parts of this process is sorting through the thousand plus weekly responses trying to find which candidates are actually qualified for the job at hand, and which candidates are overlooking the job description and sending out as many resumes as possible hoping something is going to stick. This sorting process can be detrimental to the potential candidate, and here’s why.
Although time consuming and tedious to the recruiters, office managers, and HR manager, sending in a resume for a position you are not qualified for could have more negative ramifications on you, the candidate, rather than the hiring manager. Time and time again I have heard those in charge of hiring voice their frustration over looking through those that are clearly not fit for the job, especially if the same name pops up time and time again. Whether on purpose or subconsciously, those names will eventually tend to be filtered into a category in which their resume is no longer even looked at, much less read or even brought up for consideration.
In spite of the fact that it may seem harsh and unfair, it is a problem that is beginning to become more and more prevalent in this very hot job market. So please, in order to save the time of HR professionals and your own personal career, read the posting thoroughly to make sure that you are qualified for the position being offered. In the long run it will be more beneficial to you and help further your career.
